Purpose: to measure level of assertiveness in an individual

Scoring: higher levels of score reflect greater levels of assertiveness

Assertiveness is defined as the quality of being confident and not frightened to say what you want or believe. Being assertive means that you have the  the ability to stand up for yourself and your rights, while also respecting the rights and opinions of others. It is therefore crucial within a romantic relationship, both to maintain your sense of your own identity, and also for the relationship to thrive and be healthy.

The advantages of assertive behavior is that your needs, wants and feelings are more likely to be understood. Both parties are more likely to feel respected and heard. the relationship is strengthened by the exchange and you experience fewer negative conflicts and arguments.


Intimacy Scale

Purpose: to measure an individuals perception of intimacy

Scoring: Intimacy only exists with the communication of personal information to another individual who is highly regard and of significant value by the intimate other.

Your connection with your partner is not a one dimensional scenario. Both of you need to nurture the relationship to maintain the connection. A crucial aspect of building intimacy with your partner is to recognize their individuality outside of yourself, be explicit in your affection, expressive of your love and to improve your ability to be vulnerable and open with them.

These efforts take time and attention and are effective only if both partners are involved.
Intimacy within relationships is fluid, and it can expand and contract, depending on the amount of effort and vulnerability a couple is able to commit.


Sexual Attitudes Scale

Purpose: To measure attitudes towards sexuality

Scoring: Higher scores reflect more permissiveness sexual attitudes

Sexuality is defined as A person’s behaviors, desires, and attitudes related to sex and physical intimacy with others.


Sexuality is not about who you have sex with, or how often you have it. Sexuality is about your sexual feelings, thoughts, attractions and behaviours towards other people.
Sexual attitudes are diverse and personal, and it is an important part of who you are.


Pursuer/ Distancing Scale

Purpose: To measure interpersonal pursuing and distancing dynamics in a relationship

Scoring: A ratio of the pursuing score to the distancing scale in a relationship

Pursuing is said to represent the level of connectedness and togetherness, while distancing represents the level of individuality within a relationship, which itself depends upon privacy and avoidance of emotional involvement for self-protection.

The Pursuer/Distancer Pattern is a contrast  between the need for closeness and the need for distance. When the pursuer experiences relationship stress, they turn to their partner for increased closeness and reassurance.

A partner with pursuing behavior tends to respond to relationship stress by moving toward the other. They seek communication, discussion, togetherness, and expression. They are urgent in their efforts to fix what they think is wrong. They are concerned about the distance their partner has created and take it personally.
 
A partner with distancing behavior tends to respond to relationship stress by moving away from the other. They want physical and emotional distance. They have difficulty with vulnerability.


Sense of Humour Scale

Purpose: to measure attitudes towards the use  of humour

Scoring: Higher scores reflect a greater appreciation of the use of the humour.

A sense of humor refers to the ability to find things funny, general enjoyment in doing so, or the particular types of things one finds funny.


Self Esteem Scale

Purpose: To evaluate individual self esteem

Scoring: This assessment measures the degree, severity or magnitude of the individuals perception of their own self-esteem. Individuals with a lower score indicate a lower self esteem while higher scores reflect a higher level of self esteem.

Self esteem is considered an evaluative component of self-concept.
Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves. Self-esteem refers to a person’s overall sense of his or her value or worth. It can be considered a sort of measure of how much a person “values, approves of, appreciates, prizes, or likes him or herself”.
